For the most part, you won’t need a specific educational background in order to be hired by a family.  Typically, you’ll find employment based on your past experiences and personal qualifications.  On the other hand, holding a certification as a nursing assistant or a background in early childhood development will be to your advantage when it comes to finding a job.  Depending on where you live, you may be able to enroll in non-credit college classes or other training seminars in order to bolster your resume.

Getting Jobs as a Maternity Nanny

It’s important to remember that every job you take as a maternity nanny will only last for a short time.  Therefore, your ability to make a living in this profession will depend on your ability to obtain assignments as they become available.  In some cases, your ability to get jobs will depend on the goodwill of hospital workers, as well as others in your community.  You may also need to enroll with several temporary hiring agencies in order to find work.  Without question, if you can’t cope with never knowing if a job will become available, it’s best to look for more stable forms of employment.

Depending on the population size of the area where you live, you may also be able to apply to a nanny placement agency.  This may make it easier for you to find employment and to obtain private health insurance and other benefits.  While you may still have to rely on commission-based pay checks, you’ll have access to more job opportunities than you would on your own.
